Authorities: Indonesian volcano could still erupt (AP)

TOMOHON, Indonesia ? Authorities say the chances of more eruptions at an Indonesian volcano remain high despite a slowdown in activity over last 24 hours.

Senior government volcanologist Surono, who uses one name, says there has been no major activity at Mount Lokon since Saturday's triple minor eruptions, making it difficult to convince evacuees to remain in makeshift refugee shelters near its base.

Many of those forced to evacuate have insisted on returning to their homes in the volcano's danger zone, saying they need to tend to their crops and animals.

More than 5,200 evacuees are now crammed into shelters, according to the disaster management agency.

Mount Lokon is one of Indonesia's 129 active volcanos. Its last major eruption in 1991 killed a Swiss hiker.
