LAURENO TOURNAMENT

The 25th annual Sharkey Laureno Baseball Tournament is set for July 30-August 9 at Cubeta Stadium at Scalzi Park in Stamford. This years tournament consists of two eight team divisions, Age 15 and Under along with Age 14 and Under. Each division uses a round robin format which ensures a minimum of 3 games per team.Team trophies are given for first and second place in each division as well as individual player trophies for the first and second place teams. All participants receive commemorative T-shirts and discounted food vouchers are available for players and coaches on a team basis. The entry fee to participate is $500 which includes baseballs, T-shirts, championship trophies and umpire fees. Roster size is up to 15 players and 3 coaches. Weather permitting; all games are played at Cubeta Stadium. Proof of insurance must be submitted before the start of the tournament, and the City of Stamford must be listed as additionally insured. BASEBALL SUMMER CAMPS

The Crusaders Baseball School for players ages 6 to 12 will be held at Trinity Catholic High School The camp is run under the direction of Tracy Nichols and Mike Walsh. Camp hours each day are 9 am until noon. The fee for the first week (June 27-July 1) is $190. The fee for the second week (July 5-8) is $160. Both weeks combined are $330. Additional children in the same family are $100 more per week, and individual days are $40. Each camper gets a T-shirt, baseball cards and bubble gum. The Stamford Black Knights Baseball Players Camp will be running four weekly sessions beginning June 27 thru July 22. The camp will be held at the Rippowam Middle School baseball field from 9 am ? 11:30 am Monday thru Friday. Instruction will focus on the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, bunting, base running, and proper throwing technique. There will be game play. The cost is $175 per week, $150 when joining with a friend or sibling (must register at the same time). A discount will be applied when signing up for multiple sessions. OLD TIMERS DINNER

The Stamford Old Timers will hold its annual Scholarship Dinner on Sunday, June 5 at the Italian Center, 1620 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, Connecticut. STAMFORD KIC TRIATHLON

Governor Dannel Malloy and Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia will be the event co-chairmen at the Stamford KIC IT Triathlon set for Sunday June 26 in Stamford. The triathlon, in its fourth year, will also hold a Stamford KIC IT Kids Triathlon (ages 7-13) on Sat. June 25. The weekend festivities benefit Kids In Crisis, a free emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis counseling center for Fairfield County children and families. Sacred Heart University?s 22nd Annual Pioneer Open Golf Tournament is set for Tuesday, May 31 at The Patterson Country Club in Fairfield. The Pioneer Open raises valuable scholarship funds for deserving SHU students. In the tournament?s history, more than $800,000 in direct scholarship assistance have been raised. The Hartford Marathon Foundation is launching its first Fairfield County area ING Hartford Marathon training group in Wilton. WOMENS GOLF MENTORING

The Fairfield County Chapter of EWGA (Executive Womens Golf Association) is offering a Mentoring Program for women who want to learn the rules, golf etiquette, and different styles of play. The Mentoring Program will be held at South Pine Creek par-3 golf course in Fairfield on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the every month starting May 11. Tee off time is 5:30 pm. KAYAK LESSONS

The Small Boat Shop in Norwalk, CT. will be running kayaking classes at the indoor pool at Norwalk High School. The course includes instruction on a variety of steering and control strokes, wet exits, capsize recoveries, and an efficient forward stroke. While anybody can get into a kayak and paddle it across the harbor, doing so safely and properly in a variety of weather conditions does take some hands-on learning. The course is twelve hours long, spread over three Sundays. A maximum of six students with two instructors ensures plenty of attention. Boats and equipment are provided, as are lockers and showers. INJURY PREVENTION CLINICS

The ONS Foundation for Clinical Research and Education in Greenwich wants to give people who enjoy sports activities, a range of tools and techniques to keep them enjoying their sport and out of the doctors office. A free, injury-prevention program will be offered by fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians and physical therapists affiliated with the ONS Foundation.

Tuesday, May 31, 6:30 pm to 8 pm ? INJURY PREVENTION FOR TRIATHLETES AND CYCLISTS: SAFETY STRATEGIES FOR TRAINING AND COMPETITION: Come learn about the common causes of injuries in cyclists and triathletes, the biomechanical issues of combined training, proper stretching and strengthening techniques, training methods for returning to racing post injury, and treatments for injuries. Presented by orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist Dr. Katie Vadasdi, primary-care sports medicine specialist Dr. Gloria Cohen, and ONS physical therapist Abigail Ramsey, the seminar is timed to help athletes prepare for the summer and fall race season. Flag Football Teams Wanted: The Flag Football Association, Connecticut celebrates a great first season at its new home called Freedom Field. Located on Boston Ave in Bridgeport.
