Fest, now in its 17th year, will feature plenty of well-known names, including "Bad Dads" with Michael Cera, "Sexting" with Julia Stiles, "The Second Bakery Attack" with Kirsten Dunst and Brian Geraghty, and "Steve" with Keira Knightley and Colin Firth. Helmers of this year's short films include Peter Cattaneo, Jay Duplass, Terry George, David Hayter and Heather Hemmens. ShortFest will hand out $118,000 in prizes in 18 categories, with director Allison Anders, producer Effie T. Brown, and producer/writer Kirsten Smith serving on the jury. First place winners in four categories are eligible for submission to the Oscars. In the past 16 years, 80 films that screened at the fest have gone on to be Oscar-nommed. Fest will also hold panels along with its inaugural ShortFest Online Film Festival, where 10 films will represent the fest on the web. "It's a watershed year for ShortFest," remarked Festival Director Darryl Macdonald. "It encompasses our first foray into the world of online short film streaming, an expanded lineup of international participants and new sponsors."
