The Jake Pavelka/Vienna Girardi drama that had fans tuning into the ABC reality competition is over - Jake has left the building.

Former "Bachelor" Jake was the contestant eliminated as the show returned on Monday, ending a weeklong suspense created when the show faded to black abruptly last week.
"Although we had a chance to do something really big tonight, really special, [it] just didn't happen," Jake told the remaining contestants. "I think you're sending the wrong guy home."

Jake then threw in a little suggestion, hinting that those remaining in the house should take out Vienna and her new boyfriend, Kasey Khal.
"I want to encourage everybody, if you want a shot to win, you're gonna have to step up and do the right thing and start taking out the power couples and you know which ones you need to start with," he said.
The former "Bachelor" then offered some words for his ex-fiancee, telling Vienna, "My apologies, my heart, forgiven."

As for Kasey, he was thrilled to have Jake out of the house.
"Jake's gone, the devil's gone," he said. "It's frickin' awesome!"

"[There's] just [a] euphoric sensation, just all over my body," he continued.
In the limousine, as he drove away, Jake got in the last word, explaining that he was glad to go.
"My main goal for coming to 'Bachelor Pad,' was to confront Vienna, talk to her, get things straightened out, work out some forgiveness in my heart and move on with my life," he said. "I have done that. I wish I would've one a quarter of a million dollars, but some of the things that I'm seeing that you potentially have to do to win... it's not enough money.
"I'm not sad because I'm not heartbroken," he added. "The last time I left in a limousine I was heartbroken. This time, I'm kind of glad to be out of that (expletive) crazy house."

Director Sofia Coppola Weds Musician Thomas Mars in Italy (omg!)
Sofia Coppola and longtime love Thomas Mars tied the knot in a civil ceremony in Italy Saturday.
The filmmaker went back to her roots for her big day, marrying the French Phoenix singer at her family's villa in Bernalda, the town where Coppola's grandparents were born.

The bride's father, director Francis Ford Coppola, walked her down the aisle. Clad in a lavender gown custom-designed by Azzedine Alaia, the 40-year-old Lost in Translation screenwriter said "I Do" in front of about 80 guests, including Johnny Depp and director George Lucas.
Mayor Leonardo Chiruzzi performed the civil ceremony. "Everything went well," Chiruzzi told The Associated Press. "It was simple, calm, in the garden."

Russians search for crashed spaceship in Siberia (AP)
MOSCOW ? Russian emergency workers are using helicopters Thursday in their search for the wreckage of the unmanned supply ship that crashed and exploded in a forested area in Siberia.
The spaceship was launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan some 1,500 kilometers (900 miles) southwest of the crash site. It fell after the third stage of its booster rocket failed a few minutes into the launch, in the Choisky district in Russia's Altai province.
It was the 44th launch of a Progress supply ship to the space station ? and the first failure in the nearly 13-year life of the complex.
The Progress ship carrying almost 3 tons of supplies to the International Space Station was destroyed. The rocket failed barely a month after NASA's final space shuttle flight.
Without the shuttles, NASA now is counting on Russia, Europe and Japan, as well as private U.S. businesses, to keep the station stocked.
The Russians will also be transporting astronauts to the space station until U.S. private industry can pick up the human load.
NASA and its international partners want to keep the space station running until at least 2020.
While the International Space Station has more than enough supplies, Wednesday's accident threatens to delay the launch of the next crew, just one month away. That's because the upper stage of the unmanned rocket that failed is similar to the ones used to launch astronauts to the station.

Russia's General Prosecutor's Office said that some 40 lumberjacks were working in the thick forest of where the Progress ship blew up with a thundering boom on Wednesday.
Choisky district administration told the Itar Tass news agency that the lumberjacks returned to their villages "safely."

Officials in El Cajon say members of the local Iraqi immigrant community have received threatening phone calls and been questioned about their U.S. patriotism following a federal take down of a drug trafficking ring operating out of a social club in the working-class city east of San Diego.
El Cajon Police Chief Pat Sprecco said in a news conference with the immigrant community's leaders Wednesday that he is concerned about anger and unfair condemnation directed at the group because of the operation that resulted in the arrests of 60 people involved in the ring, believed led by an Iraqi Chaldean living in El Cajon.

Kim tours Baikal ahead of summit with Medvedev (AP)
MOSCOW ? North Korean leader Kim Jong Il on Tuesday toured around the world's largest freshwater lake in eastern Siberia and visited an aircraft factory, leaving his armored train en route to meet with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Kim and Medvedev are expected to meet Wednesday evening.
The North Korean leader stepped out of his train in Ulan-Ude, the capital of Buryatia, a Buddhist province near Lake Baikal, early Tuesday. His motorcade soon left for a picturesque village on the shores of Baikal.
Inform Polis Online, a local website, said Kim visited the village of Turka in the afternoon. The website earlier reported that a cruise ship was waiting for Kim at the bay outside the village for a possible trip on the lake. The area is flooded with North Korean and Russian security officers and ambulances, the news website said.
Later on Tuesday, Kim went back to Ulan-Ude to visit a major aircraft factory, which among other things produces Sukhoi attack planes, the ITAR-Tass news agency reported from the plant.
Kim will be meeting Medvedev Wednesday for talks that could focus on a natural gas pipeline deal. The pipeline would stream Russian natural gas through the North's territory to the South. South Korea media said the North could earn up to $100 million every year, but negotiations haven't reported much progress because of a standoff over North Korea's pursuit of nuclear weapons.
The JoongAng Ilbo newspaper, however, raised worries Monday that the North could abruptly shut down the gas supply if relations deteriorated with the South.
The North Korean leader's visit is shrouded in mystery. A few people managed to take photos of Kim at his previous stop on Sunday, but heavy police cordons kept the media in Ulan-Ude away from the train station and the adjacent square.
Anna Ogorodnik, a photographer from Ulan-Ude, told the Associated Press by phone that nearby streets were full of riot police. The station square looked clean and deserted after authorities had tugged away cars and local buses.
The windows of the station building overlooking the tracks were plastered with sheets of paper and station employees had been ordered to stay indoors, Ogorodnik said.
The photographer said she had been detained after trying to take pictures. She was released after she had presented her journalist ID.
The station square remains cordoned off and Kim's train is still at the station, Ogorodnik said.
It is Kim's first visit to his country's Cold War ally in nine years.
Russian military officials arrived in the North Korean capital on Monday for a five-day visit. The Russian Defense Ministry said the talks will focus on the renewal of military cooperation between the countries, possible joint exercises "of a humanitarian nature" and an exchange of friendly visits by Russian and North Korean ships, the ITAR-Tass news agency reported from Pyongyang.
The itinerary for Kim's visit, expected to last about a week, has been largely kept secret because of what appears to be high security concern from North Korea.

Obama interrupts golf game for earthquake briefing (AP)
OAK BLUFFS, Mass. ? President Barack Obama was just starting a round of golf when the East Coast earthquake rattled the ground around him.
He put the foursome on hold and, within the hour, was on the telephone and getting updates on the temblor's aftermath from top aides, the White House said. Told there had been no major damage reported, Obama resumed one of his favorite pastimes and stayed at the public Farm Neck Golf Club for several more hours.
The White House said Obama did not feel the quake. Reporters who traveled with him to the course said they did feel it.
The quake Tuesday shook much of Washington and sent people streaming from the White House, Pentagon and Capitol.
Obama was seen talking on a cellphone on the course. The White House declined to say exactly where he was just before 3 p.m. EDT when he conferred from the course with top aides, including his homeland security secretary, national security adviser and disaster response chief.
The White House said he asked for regular earthquake reports. He also was updated on Hurricane Irene.
Obama's golf game, with a group that included pals Eric Whitaker and Vernon Jordan, came after he took advantage of idyllic summer weather to join his family on biking and beach outings earlier Tuesday. It was his third golf outing of a 10-day vacation that began last Thursday.
Aides said Obama was briefed on national security and the economy before setting out for the bike trail at Manuel F. Correllus State Forest with his wife, Michelle, and daughters Malia and Sasha. The first family went biking at the 5,100-acre preserve during their previous two summer getaways on this posh island off the Massachusetts coast. After biking, they headed to a private stretch of beach on the island's south shore for the second time in three days.
Obama also discussed Libya with French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Both agreed to support a peaceful transition to democracy and called for Moammar Gadhafi to relinquish power, the White House said. While out biking, Obama ignored a reporter's shouted question about Gadhafi's whereabouts.
The president is scheduled to return to the White House on Saturday.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) ? German investor confidence fell sharply in August on fears about sagging growth in Europe's biggest economy, the region's government debt crisis and the possibility of another recession in the United States.
The ZEW institute said Tuesday that its index of investor confidence dropped to minus 37.6, down 22.5 points from the month before.
The institute said the drop was due to fears about a double-dip recession in the United States and uncertainty about the global economy, coupled with Germany's disappointing second-quarter growth of 0.1 percent reported last week.
"The already expressed skepticism among financial experts regarding future economic growth has strengthened dramatically," said ZEW President Wolfgang Franz. "Expectations are moreover consonant with the economic pessimism on equity markets."
Germany's economy had been growing strongly despite the turmoil in the eurozone over too much government debt in some countries. Greece, Ireland and Portugal have needed international bailouts and there are fears Italy and Spain may have trouble paying their debts as well.
The slump in German growth in the second quarter came as a surprise after strong second quarter results for major companies such as automakers Volkswagen, BWM and Daimler. Economists say German industrial firms still have large order backlogs to work off that will support growth figures in the third quarter.
The index is based on a survey of 286 analysts and financial experts between Aug. 8 and Monday.

Pyongyang expels South Koreans from "peace" resort (Reuters)
SEOUL (Reuters) ? Reclusive North Korea on Monday gave South Koreans working at a jointly run tourism resort 72 hours to leave, saying time had run out to resolve a long-running dispute over what was once a symbol of cooperation between the rival Koreas.
The scenic Mount Kumgang resort has been closed since a North Korean soldier shot and killed a South Korean tourist there in 2008, drying up a lucrative source of hard currency for the impoverished North.
Pyongyang has suffered big losses due to the South's "unilateral suspension" of operations at the resort, a spokesman for the North's Guidance Bureau of Special Zone for International Tour of Mt. Kumgang.
The North "has so far provided several opportunities for negotiations and made every sincere effort, advancing a variety of choices so that the properties may be dealt with according to the will of enterprises of the South side," he said.
"This is not good," said Chung-in Moon of Yonsei University in Seoul. "North Korea has been sending a very clear message, but our government has been delaying the decision.
"I don't know why they have handled this situation like this."
The resort -- comprising hotels, restaurants and a golf course -- was opened in 1998 during a decade-long period of rapprochement between the two Koreas, known in the South as the "Sunshine policy" years.
That period ended with the election in South Korea of conservative President Lee Myung-bak in 2008, who declared there would be no aid for the destitute neighbor until the North abandoned its nuclear arms program.
Inter-Korean ties have declined sharply in the past three years, hitting a low last year when 50 South Koreans were killed in two attacks and the North unveiled a uranium enrichment facility.
However, tensions have eased on the peninsula this year and a flurry of diplomacy has raised hopes for a resumption of regional talks on disabling the North's nuclear program.
The North's leader Kim Jong-il is currently visiting Russia's Far East where he is due to meet Russian President Dmitry Medvedev later this week.
Analysts he is likely seeking economic aid and investment pledges from Moscow, mirroring similar requests made during a trip to China in May.
They say he is also seeking Russia's support to pressure the United States, South Korea and Japan to restart aid-for-disarmament talks. Dialogue sponsor Beijing backs Pyongyang's calls for an immediate restart.

At its height, 300,000 South Koreans a year visited the Mt. Kumgang, generating tens of millions of dollars for the North Korean government.
After months of threats and counter-threats from both sides, Pyongyang said it would now "legally dispose" of South Korean assets from Mt Kumgang after Seoul failed to meet Friday's final deadline to agree on asset disposal.
South Korean assets at the resort, just north of the border, are worth more than $370 million, said South Korea's Unification Ministry which oversees inter-Korean affairs.
North Korea said the South Koreans working there had 72 hours to leave. Fourteen of its nationals were stationed at the complex as of Monday.
"We cannot accept this ultimatum and hold North Korea responsible for all of the consequences that may follow," ministry spokesman Chun Hae-sung told reporters in Seoul.
The ministry would not say what its next move might be, but some media reports have said Seoul could take the issue to an international tribunal.
The resort was built by an affiliate of the South's Hyundai Group at a cost of tens of millions of dollars. It has been visited by more than a million South Koreans.
Since the 2008 shooting, Seoul has demanded an investigation by the North, an apology and safety guarantees. Pyongyang has expressed regret and says that it is enough.
Pyongyang has said it wants to redevelop the complex into an international tourist destination, complete with casino, with an eye toward luring big-spending Chinese tourists.

First of all, thank you for having me.? I?m so excited to be here.
I came to Novel Books because I love to connect with other people?readers, other writers, everyone.? In fact, connecting with other people has been one of the surprise highlights of writing for me.? Yes, writing can be a solitary life, but then there comes a point when you have to put down the keyboard and connect, to get to know your readers, and let them get to know you. ?Don?t get me wrong, I love the keyboard and crafting stories, but what?s really fun to me is getting to hear what other people think of what?s gone onto those pages.
What type of books do you write?
There was a time not so long ago that I would have said, ?Contemporary Christian Romance,? but that?s just the tip of the iceberg now.? By this point in my career, I also write Bible Studies, articles and short stories, as well as God Help! books (for when self-help just isn?t working anymore!)
I didn?t start out to write all of these.? God has led me to each one in a time or a season and has crafted a writing corner for me that fits just right.
Why do you write?
Because if I didn?t I?d either explode or go completely crazy!? Writing is like breathing to me.? It always has been. ?I love it.? I love learning about life through my characters.? I love how God can speak to me through their lives and circumstances to help me better understand life and other people.
See, I think we can get so wrapped up in our world that we fail to take into account how and why other people are the way they are.? My books give me a chance to really travel ?in the shoes? of other people.? What?s it like to lose a spouse?? What?s it like to know something dangerous is going on in a school, but when you try to tell someone, they don?t want to believe you?or worse, want you to shut up about it?? What?s it like face the biggest challenge of your life if you don?t know God?
I like being able to ask those questions and live through them with my characters.? It teaches me so much, and in turn, helps me learn to help real people in the process.
How would you describe your newest release?
What do you hope the reader takes away after reading it?
The Price of Silence seems like it?s YA.? After all, it?s set in a high school, and I?m not going to say that it?s not for high school students because it is.? But honestly I mostly wrote it for the adults.? We don?t have a clue what these kids today face and go through.
When I was teaching, there was a gun brought to my classroom that I didn?t know about until later.? The young lady who saw it and reported it was then hounded and harassed until she was forced to leave the school.? Two years later, the kid who brought the gun was on trial for murder in a different case.? I always wondered what it was like to be my student. What happens if you tell about a dangerous person or situation, and this person who really has evil in their hearts comes after you?? And for parents and administrations, what are we doing to help our kids in those situations?? Do we deal with them or do we try to sweep them under the rug and hope they go away?
For us, they may go away.? For the kids, they don?t.
If parents, teachers, and administrators can get that message and do something to give their kids a voice in schools, then I?ll be happy.
Which is your favorite character from your book?
I have readers?especially the males of the species?who would die on a hill for Robyn Lockhart, the reporter who pursues the story despite the fact that it could very well get her killed.? But my personal favorite is Sean, the hero.? I know.? I know.? It?s that whole bad boy persona or something, but he is the tough guy who is tough because he?s so hurt.? He?s actually very vulnerable, and only his closest friends really see that about him.? And, speaking strictly as a female of the human race, I would love to have a guy trying that hard to protect me.? Just sayin?.
Do you have a funny or touching story that relates to your book?
Yes.? But it?s not about the book directly. About six years ago, I released The Price of Silence as a serial book through my email newsletter.? If you were signed up, you got two chapters every month.? It was going great until I got to about chapter 9 and 10.? I sent it out and the next day I got two chapters back from a reader, and they were all marked up.? I mean it looked like this person BLED on the things.
Well, what do you do with that?? Why would someone do such a thing?? I mean, have you ever taken a John Grisham novel, corrected it, and sent it back to him?? I was at a loss to explain it.? Should I be mad? Should I write something back to this person? ?Should I defend myself?? What? ?I finally decided to just put the whole thing in God?s hands figuring I didn?t have all the pieces as to why anyone would do that.
The next month came around and I sent the next two chapters out.? About 30 minutes later, I got an email from this lady saying something like, ?I?m soooooo sorry!? I can?t believe I did that!? I thought those were the chapters I was supposed to critique for my new critique group!?
Hahahahaha!? Six years later, we?re still best friends.? God has such an interesting sense of humor.
Tell us about your writing process.
Well, to say I?m unconventional would be putting it mildly.? I make flying by the seat of your pants look safe.? At any one time, I?m writing about six different novels.? I usually have one or ten other projects going on too?God Help! books, Bible Studies, articles, the blogs, guest blogs, interviews, something.
On the novels, very rarely do I write on cover-to-cover.? Out of 30 full-length novels I?ve finished, I think that?s happened a grand total of twice.? Most of the time, I write on one, then pick up another, then a different one? I write what God tells me to write when He tells me to write it.
And your next question is, ?How do you keep all that straight??? The answer is, ?I don?t.? God does.?? I have just learned to walk when He says, ?Go? and stop when He says, ?Stop.?? Each book has a personality all its own.? Some I have a lot of the plot in my head.? Some I have pieces of.? Some I have absolutely no clue.? Some I know for awhile, and then it stops.? So I stop.? I can?t explain how any of that works because if I understood it, I?d try to control it.? If nothing else, I?ve learned one thing?God?s way works.? My way doesn?t.? So I?ve decided to just go with what He says to do when He says to do it, and not try to put my agenda anywhere in any of it.
What will you write next?
Well, right now, I?m writing one that might be my next one finished.? It?s about a dyslexic writer who falls in love with a coffeeshop waitress.? That one?s been a challenge because I didn?t even know he was dyslexic until he wouldn?t let me read his laptop screen.? When I figured that out, I was like, ?Hmm.? Well, this should be interesting.?
Which books do you recommend to readers?
Right now, I?ve got two on sale on Kindle and Nook for 99 cents.? So if you want to take a leap of faith and try out a new author, I?d say either ?Cowboy? or ?The Price of Silence.?
But do not be mad at me if you get nothing done for a day or three while you?re reading.? I get more husbands mad at me because their wife doesn?t get anything done, only looking up long enough to say, ?Just one more chapter?? I always thought that was funny until my husband was reading one of mine and did that to me (not kidding either!). He just kept right on reading?
