It?s 2012 all over again for local artists on the Polaris Music Prize long list. Like last year, albums by native Montreal and Montreal-based artists took 11 spots ? more than a quarter ? on the list. The Besnard Lakes, Les soeurs Boulay and Majical Cloudz were among those who made it past the first hurdle.
The $30,000 prize, which was launched in 2006, recognizes outstanding Canadian albums, regardless of genre or sales figures. Works released between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013 qualified this year.
