Summary of Responsibilities: The Finance staff of the School of Continuing Studies (SCS) plans and manages all financial resources of the School in support of the School's mission of developing sustainable, revenue positive programs and operating as a fully self-supporting entity. This position is responsible for oversight of the accounting function for SCS, including managing the use of various fund types and program accounts, revenue and expense accounting, payables and receivables processing, account reconciliation and all monthly and year-end close activities for the School. The incumbent will also monitor revenues and expenses relative to the School's budget throughout year, update estimated revenues and expenses, maintain expense controls, prepare variance analyses, interpret financial data and results, and advise the Director of Finance and Administration on budget issues, unfavorable trends or budget deviations and recommend a course of action. The incumbent will perform accounting transactions and financial analysis to achieve proper cost accounting for the School's various cost centers and programs as well as develop and maintain financial infrastructure and procedures to deliver a high level of service, efficient use of resources, and accuracy of financial information and reporting and compliance with university regulations. The incumbent supports the Finance staff role in developing and managing the systems necessary for budgeting, financial planning and analysis, and business operations to serve the entrepreneurial nature of the School. The incumbent will also support the Finance staff's role in program evaluation and decision making and evaluating the financial viability of new programs as the School seeks to expand its program offerings.

Minimum Requirements: A Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy in addition to four years of progressively responsible experience in professional level accounting work. An advanced degree in accountancy or registration as a Certified Public Accountant may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

Additional Desirable Qualifications: Master's degree in business administration, finance, public administration, accounting, or economics is preferred. Also preferred is five to seven years of professional experience in accounting, finance, budgeting and/or financial planning and analysis. Experience in developing financial reporting tools, experience in developing and maintaining complex financial models, and experience in evaluating financial performance and preparing related financial analyses and projections is also preferred. The ability to develop, implement, and interpret policies and procedures and the ability to effectively translate strategies into financial plans is desired. Strong communication skills, with the ability to interpret and summarize data to help management achieve strategic and operational goals are also desirable. The ability to manage competing deadlines and independently establish priorities, ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, knowledge of governmental accounting is also preferred. The ideal candidate will possess excellent Excel and analytical skills, excellent organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, well-developed presentation skills, and possess an entrepreneurial spirit focused on helping the School achieve its financial goals. The ideal candidate will also be self-directed and able to work and make decisions independently and possess a strong commitment to service.
